With women’s soccer preliminaries underway and the opening Olympic ceremony this Friday, the games are about to begin! And in this wonderful Internet age of social media, we have more options than ever on watching the Olympics, staying up-to-date, and learning more about the athletes who represent their respective countries.
Here are 5 apps that I think you will enjoy:
NBC Olympics Live Extra
If you’re lucky and have a cable package with MSNBC and CNBC, this app will let you sign in with your cable account and let you watch all 302 events, live, from your iPhone, iPad, and even your television if you have an Apple TV. Assuming it works well (and I believe NBC has their act together) this will be the best way to watch the games in the history of the Olympics.
Official Olympics Planning App
If you’re even more amazing and will be attending the games, this is the app for you. Described as “…an essential planning tool for everyone, whether you have tickets for a sporting event or not. From the start of the Olympic Torch Relay to the Olympics and Paralympics, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, plus all the cultural, city and community celebrations happening across the UK, [this] is your essential companion.”
From the Torch Relay (which is almost over) to the very end of the Olympics, this helps you know where to go, how to get there, and what to do in between.
Reuters Olympics London
Do you want to see that epic photo finish frozen in time? Want to see those glorious moments of victory captured forever? This is the app for you. Reuters “delivers the best live Olympics photos & moments captured by Reuters award-winning photographers.”
Official Results App
The quickest way to see who won which event, for all events, all in the same place.
Team USA Road to London Olympics
For all you USA readers, this will follow the USA team members as they compete. The Olympics are a personal, emotional experience for many athletes. Getting to know them, their background, who they are and how hard they trained, really gets you into the games. Find someone to root for!
