The rumors persist. Apple is preparing its own “revolutionary” Apple TV.
First, it was rumored that Apple was a thinking about buying Hulu.
Then, after Steve Jobs passed away, rumors of a Siri-controlled AppleTV ran rampant.
Now, we have word that Apple is in talks with media companies.
What are they talking about?
Streaming
Apple would need to talk to the media companies to negotiate any sort of subscription-based streaming service.
Today’s Apple TV is actually pretty great. If you have iTunes match, you can stream your music straight from the cloud. You can also watch media from Youtube, Netflix, the iTunes store, and your iPhone or computer.
After being stuck on the shelf as a “side project” for a long time, the Apple TV is finally joining the Apple ecosystem.
Voice & Motion control
In at least one meeting, Apple described future television technology that would respond to users’ voices and movements, one of the people said. Such technology, which Apple indicated may take longer than some of its other ideas, might allow users to use their voices to search for a show or change channels.
Microsoft just updated the Xbox to include voice and motion control. What will Apple add to the mix?
Apple runs a tight ship, so who knows what this is all really about. All I can say for sure is that you should expect to be surprised.
The great thing is: if you expect to be surprised, you’ll be surprised when you’re not surprised.
Confused? The point is: rumors are often wrong, and Apple often produces something unexpected.
