If you own an Apple device and have upgraded in the last week to iOS 7, congratulations, you are part of what one analyst is calling the “fastest software upgrade in history.”
9To5Mac reported this week that Apple has seen more than 60 percent of its devices upgraded to the latest operating system in the week since the release of the new operating system, which is significantly faster adoption than its previous mobile OS releases such as iOS 6, which saw less than 50 percent adoption in the same time period, and iOS 5, which was under 30 percent at this point.
The estimation of how many phones have been upgraded is done by Fiksu, a mobile app marketing company.
The rapid upgrade rate can in large part be attributed to iOS 7 being — visually — the biggest overall to iOS since Apple debuted the mobile operating system. Such a rapid adoption rate is likely a very welcome sign to both Apple and application developers who can worry less about where to focus their development support efforts on older versions of applications.
