Apple’s ramping up iPad Air production for launch next week

For quite some time, the iPad Air has been on the official ‘Apple Gadget Rumor Watchlist’. Back in August Bloomberg reported that display companies AU Optronics and LG Display had begun producing screens for the iPad Air. John Gruber over at Daring Fireball in the same month wrote a post ‘Sharing the Stage’ in which he outlined why he didn’t think that the new smaller iPad would be announced alongside the iPhone 5.

This morning, the Wall Street Journal reportedly received news from Taipei that Apple’s Asian component suppliers have started mass production of the new iPad Air. This iPad will also likely be produced in Brazil, and reports from Macotakara are that it already has begun at those factories.

Concerning the display they report:

Two of the people said the smaller tablet will have a 7.85-inch liquid-crystal display with a lower resolution compared with the latest iPad model that came out in March.

The expected date of the announcement is Friday October 12th, with an announcement sent to the tech press a couple days sooner.

We’re getting excited folks.
