Does The new iPad Have Siri? No, But It Has the Best Part

In case you’ve been living under a rock this morning, Apple announced the all new iPad today, including a host of new features – retina display, 4G LTE, and more. You may be wondering, did the new iPad get Siri?

No. But don’t worry, the best part of Siri – Voice Dictation – did make it into the new iPad. And it’s a perfect fit on the iPad.

There is a new button on the on-screen keyboard to initiate voice dictation. Simply say what you want the iPad to write, and it’ll show up on your screen with the same accuracy that you get on the iPhone 4S using Siri. You can now dictate iMessages, e-mails, notes and more using the new feature.

Many users were hoping for the Virtual Assistant feature to make it into the newly announced tablet, and it’s understandable that users want the very best features on all of their devices. But the reality is that most of the features that Siri offers are simply not conducive to using a tablet. It’s not often you’re going to pull out the tablet while jogging to reply to a text message, or ask your iPad for directions while driving.

I’ve owned the iPhone 4S for nearly 6 months now, and I can tell you that while Siri has grown stale, Voice Dictation is a feature that I use a dozen times every single day. Having that ability on the iPad will be a very welcome addition.

What do you think? Are you mad that Siri didn’t make it to the iPad? Or will you be more than happy with Voice Dictation? Let us know it the comments, or yell at me on Twitter (@calebhicks).

Thanks for some other excellent article. Where else could anyone get that kind of info in such an ideal means of writing? I have a presentation next week, and I’m at the search for such info.
