Rumors about a Siri-powered AppleTV have run rampant since Walter Isaacson’s biography of Steve Jobs was released.
Now Terry Gou, the chief of Foxconn, fans the flames with another enticing rumor that Apple is getting ready to produce the iTV. The iTV will supposedly have an aluminum construction like the Apple Cinema Display and will take advantage of Siri and FaceTime.
From China Daily:
“Gou said Foxconn is making preparations for iTV, Apple Inc’s rumored upcoming high-definition television, although development or manufacturing has yet to begin.
iTV reportedly features an aluminum construction, Siri, and FaceTime video calling
Foxconn’s recent 50-50 joint venture factory with Sharp in Japan is one of the preparationsmade for the new device, Gou added.”
I find it surprising that a Foxconn executive would leak something this big.
Loose lips sink ships
Rumor had it that McGraw-Hill lost their part in the iPad announcement when an executive shared details about the iPad the day before the announcement. McGraw Gill denied these rumors, but even so – Apple is not happy with leaks.
I’m always hesitant about rumors this early on, but who knows? Maybe we’ll get a glimpse at WWDC this year.
Update (May 14): Terry Gou denies the rumors in a statement to TheNextWeb:
“Any reports,” the statement reads, “that Foxconn confirmed that it is preparing to produce a specific product for any customer are not accurate.”
