FreedomPop Is At It Again: Free Voice, Text And Data For Life

FreedomPop has been making waves lately with its free wireless service. If you’re not familiar with the company, they’re a wireless MVNO that uses Sprint’s 4G WiMax network. While LTE is the standard in 4G, WiMax still provides capable speeds in areas where it’s supported. FreedomPop gives users 500 MB of free data each month with the purchase of one of their devices.

The latest service offering from FreedomPop is free wireless phone service. When you buy their HTC Evo Design 4G for $100, you get 500 MB of free 4G data, 200 anytime minutes and 500 text messages each month for free. You can also opt for one of two paid plans if that isn’t enough. $11 a month will get you unlimited minutes and unlimited texts. All data after 500 MB is billed at 2.5 cents per megabyte.

While I certainly wouldn’t recommend this service to those who use their phones often, it’s a tremendous deal for those who don’t rely on their mobile device much. Think of the elderly and younger kids who might benefit from having a phone in emergencies. $100 bucks for the device, no contract, and no monthly bill — that’s hard to beat.

You can check out the plan and additional details on their website, www.FreedomPop.com to see if they offer service in your area.
