Great news for all those Gleeks out there! The FOX hit, Glee, is coming to theaters this summer. And not only is the TV show being made into a feature film, it is coming to the big screens as Glee! Live 3D!
The major studio, 20th Century Fox, has announced a few days ago that they are starting plans for a live concert tour movie based on the Glee Live! In Concert! North American tour.
“We knew that not every fan who wanted to attend a concert would get that opportunity,” show creator Ryan Murphy told EW. “Now, thanks to our friends at Twentieth Century Fox Film, we’ll be able to bring the concert experience to movie theaters across the country in full three dimensional glory.”
The studio decided to follow the footsteps of the recent concert-movie hits “This Is It” – which followed Michael Jackson and his crew on their last tours – and Justin Bieber’s hit “Never Say Never.” These films that have hit theaters recently have been a major success. According to Deadline, they have announced that they will release the film for a two-week segment starting August 12 in theaters nationwide.
Glee Live! 3D! will be directed by Kevin Tancharoeen who is known, most recently, for his efforts in directing “Fame” which was a remake of an older movie which carries the same name. Not only that, but the majority of the original Glee cast will be making appearances in the film (as the performing artists). You will recognize Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Chris Colfer (Kurt), among many other stars.
While I’m excited to hear my favorite Glee songs (like “Don’t Stop Believing”), I’m not so sure about the whole 3D aspect. Can you say 3D fist pumps?
