Google Animations – Gmail is green, and secure. (via @jkhowland)

Google has shared information of what happens when your email is sent. Google is trying to accomplish a few things with this video.

Energy Conservation:

The title of the video gives its message away. ‘Story of Send on Google Green’ is about how Google’s server infastructure is built to use the most efficient amount of energy.

“The servers work together” and are “shared between [their] products” so that they can do more for less energy.

They’re cooling with water, and powering with wind.

Increasing Trust:

Google adds a bit to the story by talking about the security measures they have at their data facilities.

The video talks about how once you send your email it goes to the data center, and then:

We protect it with a wide range of security measures. Like security cameras, iris scans, and fingerprint scans in our buildings…. Our servers work together to process your data. Including duplicating your message to create a backups, and scanning it for viruses.

HTML Version of the Story:

If you liked the video or thought the story was interesting, you can go check out the HTML version. You can click through, and play with the elements of the story more.

Interesting stuff from Google.
