Today, on Instagram’s blog, under the title “Instagram as a Growing Business,” it was announced that ads will begin showing up in our feeds. Claiming that Instagram has big plans for the future, they’ve stated that it’s time to make a sustainable business. This means advertisers will be allowed to pay to have their content show up in your feed whether you follow them or not.
In reference to the content advertisers can post, Instagram states:
Our aim is to make any advertisements you see feel as natural to Instagram as the photos and videos many of you already enjoy from your favorite brands. After all, our team doesn’t just build Instagram, we use it each and every day. We want these ads to be enjoyable and creative in much the same way you see engaging, high-quality ads when you flip through your favorite magazine.
If you don’t like the content that’s being pushed by advertisers, you will have the option to hide it. I’m assuming, once you hide it, you will be prompted to give feedback, like on Facebook, so Instagram can taylor ad content to your preferences. It’s also safe to assume that what you double tap on Instagram to show your love, you’ll begin to see ads that follow your habits.
