The iPhone 5 is going to get LTE. This is pretty slick news if you have LTE in your area on the carrier of your choice. It turns out, Apple’s not playing favorites (with the exception of T-mobile who remains the red-headed step child of the US carriers).
Online you can find that the carriers have all announced they’re ready to support the new iPhone with LTE. You don’t need to scour the web looking for carriers that support it. Phil announced it a few minutes ago:
In the US:
- Virgin Mobile
- T-Mobile (Germany of course)
Other carriers may announce support in the comming weeks.
When the iPad 3 was released there was a lawsuit and a lot of drama around LTE. Apple released a device that supported LTE, but only for US carriers. The iPhone 5 won’t have that problem, and will support LTE worldwide.
The iPhone 5 is bound to be an excellent internet device. We can only hope the carriers come down on data costs.
