If you’re in the market for pointless smartphone accessories, then you’ll love the ‘Cube’, a new product featured on KickStarter.
Shatterproof! Amplifies audio from your phone! You can put it in different rooms! And it looks great! It has a hole, so you can use it with any smartphone. You can put post-its on it! Or put stickers on it! And of course, you can wash it!
Yes, these are all ‘features’ bragged about in the KickStarter project.
But in the end, the entirety of the product is in the name. It’s a cube. With a hole in it. And just like any object with empty space in it, you can put stuff in it. If you choose to put your smartphone in this particular empty space, you can move it around, or color on the outside, and it might amplify some audio for you.
This is the most absurd accessory I’ve ever seen. It doesn’t charge your phone (unless you use your own USB cable threaded through it). It doesn’t hook it up to a stereo. It adds no functionality. It’s debatable whether it looks better than just setting your phone down. I don’t get it.
While I don’t see much merit in the actual product, I applaud the guys (or gals) behind it. They’ve created something, and are trying to bring it to market. They’ve got a long way to go, as they’re looking for $70,000 and have only gotten $3,000 at the time of posting. So if you want to support them for their efforts, please, do.
