Have you heard about this one yet? An app called “Joustin Beaver” has ruffled the feathers of the one and only Justin Beiber, whose lawyers recently sent a cease and desist letter to the app developer demanding that they remove the app from the App Store immediately.
The app is a game featuring a buck-toothed beaver that just so happens to sport a familiar and popular hairstyle and fashionable jacket. The character’s objective is to successfully navigate the river of stardom, signing “otter-graphs” for fans while using his lance to knock away “phot-hogs” attempting to take his picture.
Beiber’s lawyers are claiming that the game is a blatant rip-off of his likeness, image, name, life story, and overall identity. They refuse to acknowledge the game as a parody, which would technically protect the developer from any sort of copyright infringement. In response the app developer, RC3, replied, “Nowhere in the game is Justin Beiber’s name, photo, image, or life story mentioned. We were surprised to learn that in addition to being a talented musician, Mr. Beiber is also a fictional beaver.”
