41MP Camera Included: Nokia’s New Lumia 1020 [Gallery]

Nokia Lumia 1020 w/ 41mp Camera

Earlier this week, I gave you 10 fun facts you probably didn’t know about Nokia’s history with photography and camera phones. Just as we expected, the Finnish company is paving the way for even more smartphone photography awesomeness. While must of us are running around with 8 or 13mp cameras on our phones, the new Nokia Lumia 1020 boasts a whopping 41mp sensor. It uses Zeiss optics with 6 lenses and has a single, elongated xenon flash.

To compliment the new beasty camera, Nokia is releasing a new “pro” camera app that gives users granular control over the camera’s sensor. You’ll be able to adjust things like ISO, shutter speed, white balance, focus, flash, and exposure. The camera also has Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), which is extremely rare in smartphones, but fairly common on dedicated cameras (point and shoot and DSLR).

For the foreseeable future, the Nokia Lumia 1020 will be an AT&T exclusive here in the U.S. and will sell for $299 with a two-year contract in your choice of black, white or yellow. You may notice the price is a bit steep compared with other high-end phones like the Galaxy S4 and HTC One. But, if taking top quality photos is a priority to you, you’ll pony up the extra bucks for this top-quality shooter.
