You have to hand it to McDonald’s for embracing new ways to advertise in this social media age. Unfortunately for them, things definitely did not go as planned this week. Last week, they decided to promote the tweet: “When u make something w/ pride, people can taste it,” McD potato supplier #McDstories
That’s when the Twitterverse exploded with extremely negative and often hilarious tweets, telling the world their own stories about the fast food giant. Needless to say, the campaign backfired and was pulled a few hours later. Here are some examples of what people were saying:
- I ate my first McDonalds burger when I was 14 years old. It made me vomit. #McDStories
- #McDStories I nearly had heart attack eating 50 nuggets. White meat? What percentage? (Author’s note: 50 nuggets? Sorry, but this one is on you!)
- Fingernail in my Big Mac one. #McDStories
- PETA and McDonald’s got into it today on Twitter. I was surprised. I didn’t know there was actual meat at McDonald’s #McDStories
- Wasn’t able to eat at McD for five years after you gave me food poisoning. Still feel sick if I eat/see a Big Mac. #McDStories
- McDonalds keeps pumping out bad ad campaign after bad ad campaign. Eating their food is MUCH riskier than petting pit bulls#McDStories
That last tweet is referring to a recent radio campaign claiming that trying their new Chicken McBites was not risky. Hmmm…probably not the smartest advertisement in the world! I guess you could say it was not a very good week for McDonald’s. Check out the ad below.
