Lost Photos is a beautifully designed app that fills a very niche, likely one-time, need.
After downloading, simply open the app, log in to your email, and click ‘Find My Photos!’ Lost Photos then digs through your entire e-mail history and downloads every image attachment. You can then import into iPhoto, upload to Photo Stream, or share on Facebook and Twitter.
Options allow you to avoid downloading every tiny icon stuffed into e-mail signatures and mailing lists. So be sure to take advantage to avoid hundreds of reminders of the spam you’ve received over the years.
The app is compatible with Gmail, Google Apps, Yahoo! Mail, and MobileMe/.Mac accounts. Unfortunately, Hotmail (my provider of choice for my teenage years) and the new Outlook.com are unsupported.
Since I don’t send many photos, and because my Gmail account only dates back about 5 years, I didn’t think I would find much, but I found one photo I thought I’d never see again, making Lost Photos more than worth it. At $2.99 the app may seem expensive for something you should hopefully only use once or twice, but the nostalgia alone is worth the price of entry.
