Samsung offering extended battery kit with Galaxy Nexus purchase

The hottest cell phone in December was that Samsung Galaxy Nexus — the first device to run Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.

As good as many of the features are/were about the Galaxy Nexus, users nearly universally complained about battery life on the device. Months later, the battery sucking prowess of the device still hasn’t been resolved through software, so 9to5Google is reporting that Samsung is now offering a free Galaxy Nexus i515 Battery Bundle Kit with any on-contract (Verizon) purchase of a GN. The kit includes a 2100 mAh extended battery and a special cover designed to fit the battery.

Providing the extended battery is a nice gesture from Samsung and will be a nice thing for new owners of the Galaxy Nexus, but new owners as well as those who already have the phone will still be stuck with an energy sucking device. I purchased a Galaxy Nexus when it debuted in December and experienced the pain of not being able to use the device for more than four hours without needing a recharge. My solution, however, was a ZAGGsparq, and as such, I recommend it for anyone with a Galaxy Nexus (or any other phone, really) who needs extra juice on the go. I found that the Sparq was a must-carry in my backpack everywhere I went because I would need to charge the Galaxy Nexus while out and about and I didn’t want to concern myself with finding wall outlets.

The Samsung offer is nice, and will be a welcome benefit for new Galaxy Nexus owners, but for those who can’t get the extended battery deal, the bottom line is that there are still options out there.
