You know the saying, cliche as it is, a picture is worth 1000 words?
Meet Bill Flora, one of the main designers behind the new Windows 8 Metro design. What you see in the picture? Flora, sitting proudly next to his Mac.
As a matter of fact, he has a plethora of Apple accessories surrounding him: a MacBook Pro, a Cinema Display, a Bluetooth keyboard, and a Magic Mouse. Yep, Bill loves him some Apple gear.
Microsoft has found a very unique design scheme with Metro. I think that their new interest in attractive software design has been impressive. One could attempt to argue that it’s in response to Apple’s success. You certainly wouldn’t have a hard time arguing that many designers of third-party Mac applications give more thought to design than many more third-party designers of Windows applications. Design is rich in Apple and its community.
Okay, so maybe it’s misleading to conclude that Windows 8 was created on Macs, but this picture suggests that it may be at least partially true. It’s doubtful that Microsoft’s Redmond headquarters is full of Macs, but when one of your lead designers is a Mac enthusiast, it’s hard not to view it as some sort of appropriate parallel.
If you had to pick the 1000 words to describe this picture of one of the lead designers at Microsoft, somewhere in there it would include these 6:
- Windows 8
- Metro
- Designer
- Happy
- With
- Mac
Maybe not in that order, but they’d be in there.
