This is one of the sweetest technological advancements in sports I’ve ever seen.
A small data cell nested between the player’s shoulder blades, protected by a pocket of fabric and connected to electrodes woven into the athlete’s base layer marks a bold step into the future of professional soccer.
This is all about gathering sports data. Adidas has partnered with Major League Soccer to give the coaches, trainers, and players access to performance information live.
With the data cell implanted into base layers and uniforms, those who need the information most will instantly be able to access performance metrics like speed, distance covered, average field position, heart rate, acceleration, and “power.”
The tech gives information that can paint a picture about a specific player of the whole team all at once. It can be useful for practice time, or for game time.
“On-field data tracking is one of the most important elements coaches and trainers use to prepare their teams. Teams are constantly looking for a competitive edge and the micoach Elite System is a real-time performance monitoring solution for the best teams in the world.
Coming this next week this is going to be huge, not just for Soccer, but for all sports. Of course the new iPad accessories will need to come with an invisibleSHIELD to protect them, or else one hit from a soccer ball and the new iPads are done.
