Skype comes to the Vita

With the PS Vita gaining more and more popularity throughout the world today, it’s not surprising to see an application that would make it even more of a hot item. Recently, it was announced that Skype will soon be available for the PS Vita.

It has been announced the this app will be free through the PlayStation Store. The app will make use of both the front and rear cameras on the PS Vita while providing a high quality video chat experience. The use of both the front and back cameras is reminiscent of the iPod Touch/iPhone’s FaceTime application which also allows the same feature. With the use of the rear camera, you can show the person you’re talking to while seeing through the screen exactly what you’re showing them. The camera on the front will show your face (obviously) while you converse with the person on the other end.

The Skype application will also run in the background (while the Vita is asleep) so it can accept calls via Skype even when it’s off. This is impressive considering it will work much like a Smartphone and the application is free. Of course, you will need a source of internet for Skype to work on your PS Vita, but it is a free app, and worth checking out.
