This List May Surprise You: The 20 highest paid CEOs in America

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, sits at the top of the list with an average compensation of $95 million.

CNBC just published a list of the highest-paid CEOs in America and their average annual compensation. Of course, executive pay structure is far different from how most of us are paid (not just the amount). There are stock grants with various vesting dates and performance requirements, stock bonuses, expense accounts, and several other pieces that make up these final numbers. In most cases, their actual salary is just a small fraction of the final amount.

CNBC put together the list in a slideshow which is difficult to view, so I’ve put together the execs (and their paychecks) together in one easy list:

  • Tim Cook (Apple): $95 million
  • Larry Ellison (Oracle): $70 million
  • Ron Johnson (JC Penney): $53 million
  • Leslie Moonves (CBS Corporation): $52 million
  • Richard Adkerson (Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold): $49 million
  • Philippe Dauman (Viacom): $43 million
  • John Hammergren (McKesson Corporation): $42 million
  • Aubrey McClendon (Chesapeake Energy): $39 million
