Okay, this one is cool. Why do you care? Dude, it’s free.
The goal of Apple seems to be to make iBooks 2, and iTunes U a runaway success right off the bat. The easiest way to make that happen is to get great content there the way they have for the App Store.
Now anyone can create stunning iBooks textbooks, cookbooks, history books, picture books, and more for iPad. All you need is an idea and a Mac. Start with one of the Apple-designed templates that feature a wide variety of page layouts. Add your own text and images with drag-and-drop ease.
But they’re going to give you all the software to make more than a simple book with text and images. They’re going to give you, and your favorite authors (all for free), the software needed to make interactive learning tools.
Use Multi-Touch widgets to include interactive photo galleries, movies, Keynote presentations, 3D objects, and more. Preview your book on your iPad at any time. Then submit your finished work to the iBookstore with a few simple steps. And before you know it, you’re a published author.
- Apple-designed templates
- Beautiful text and layouts
- Multi-Touch widgets
- Export for iBookstore or iTunes U
This leaves only your imagination. Apple has created an authoring tool that makes it not only possible, but easy to create a magnificent reading and learning experience.
After even a short time of playing with it, you’ll begin to understand the scope of application that this app has. Smooth, fast and powerful. Teachers in a typical classroom are only the beginning. User manuals, study aids, cookbooks, parenting books, financial literacy books, ebooks from your favorite bloggers, are all in the realm of immediate possibilities.
The only question is how quickly it will be adopted. Amazon and Google must be shaking in their pants.
