Ubuntu for Android: Phone meets PC

If you’ve dreamed of the day you’ll be able to use your smartphone as your computer, Ubuntu for Android may be exactly what you’re looking for.

So, there’s some good news and some bad news. Let’s get the bad news out of the way first: it isn’t available for you, the consumer, right now. You won’t find it in the Play Store or shipped with any current device on the market.

Now, the good news: it won’t be long before Android phones will ship, from the factory, running Android and Ubuntu out of the box. When you’re out and about, the phone works the way you’d expect. When you’re at home or the office, you just dock it to a monitor, mouse and keyboard, and voila, desktop computer mode via Ubuntu. Check out the video below for a short demo on what to expect. You can also find more on Ubuntu’s website, here.
