At a time when the gadget world is abuzz with news of the iPad 3 being released in March, Toshiba has decided to throw their hat into the ring as well and compete for tablet sales. The Toshiba Excite 10 LE Wi-Fi only tablet is being billed by the company as “the world’s thinnest and lightest 10-inch tablet” and is set to be released in the U.S., not-so-coincidentally, on March 6, one day before the iPad 3 is being released. The tablet will retail for $529.99 for the 16GB model, and $599.99 for the 32GB model.
The Excite is both thinner and lighter than the iPad 2, measuring at only 0.30 thick and 1.18 pounds. The iPad 2, on the other hand, is 0.34 inches thick and weighs 1.33 pounds. However, with the iPad 3 coming out the day after the Excite hits shelves, it will be interesting to see how the newest generation of iPad compares.
The Excite 10 LE has a 10.1 inch diagonal back-lit widescreen display made out of Corning Gorilla Glass. The Excite is said to initially be running Android 3.2 (Honeycomb), but may have the possibility to upgrade to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) later in the year.
So for those of you looking to purchase a tablet in March, which one is it going to be? iPad 3? Or the new Excite 10 LE?
