Do you watch your YouTube videos in the browser? For a long time I refused to watch any YouTube video that didn’t work in Safari without Flash installed. A few months ago I gave in and started using Chrome when I wanted to watch a YouTube video that didn’t work in HTML5.
A Native Option
If you play a wide number of video types then you’ll have likely downloaded VLC. It’s a very useful application that makes it easy to watch almost any video file type.
VLC is an extremely useful application for watching, recording, and streaming audio and video. And if you didn’t know, you can also use it to watch your favorite YouTube videos.
It’s very simple to do. Simply find the YouTube video you’d like, click Media in the menu and then Network and input that link for the URL.
Why use VLC?
There are a few benefits to using VLC to watch YouTube videos. The best is that you can change the playback speed of the videos. You can also:
- ”Skip any ads that might play before videos without needing to use a browser extension.”
- “Watch the videos in a smaller window while doing other things on your computer.”
- “Capture snapshots from the video using VLC’s capture feature.”
Make sure to check for updates if it doesn’t seem to be working.
