Reviews & Questions

Slim Book Pro for the Apple 9.7-inch iPad Pro (English US) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 32.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zagg Slim Book Pro is a hit! I have been a Zagg keyboard lover for about 2 years. It's a great product for my iPad. I did have a problem twice though with the Zagg Slim Book. Customer service is OUTSTANDING and replaced my item both times. This time, the CSR suggested I try the Pro. So I did and I LOVE IT. Much better hinges to break! Thanks, Zagg!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what I was looking for......! I purchased a 9.7 case a few weeks back, motivated in large part by the positive reviews I found on this page. I wanted to use my iPad Pro more like my laptop, but previous keyboard/cases I'd tried were essentially useless. I loved the 9.7 from the start - especially the way I could angle the screen back and, best of all, the detach-ability of the screen from the keyboard. Shortly after I received the product I went on vacation, with long plane rides both directions. I loved being able to vary the iPad/screen element depending on whether I was watching a movie, typing, or reading a book. Very flexible indeed - and received several glowing comments from nearby passengers. Regrettably, I experienced a problem with the iPad case separating from the keyboard hinge, usually when I was just opening it up. It did not impair functionality since it was easy to re-attach each time, but it was annoying. When I called customer service to notify them, I was very impressed with their responsiveness. Without hesitation, since it was still under warranty they offered to exchange the case - and bumped me up to the iPad 9.7 Pro version! This just arrived today, and I'm loving it even more than the first version. The hinge mechanism of the earlier version has been replaced with a very strong magnetic connection which is way stronger - and less parts to malfunction. Better still, there's a built in kick stand on the back of the iPad part of the case, which provides for unlimited angles of the screen, whether attached to the keyboard or not. The exterior of the case is also smoother and "stickier" for staying put on laps! I love this 9.7 Pro case and highly recommend, especially for anyone who is trying to "cut the cord" to their primary desktop/monitor set up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Slim Book Pro 9.7 I had bought the original and had problems. This one is the best. Vast improvement over the original one. Thank you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Great costumer service. I returned the first Slim Book PRo because the keys stuck. After a little mistake with sending the wrong slimbook (may have been my own fault), I received a new one within a couple of days. THis one is perfect. Keys do not stick. Its really perfect for my needs. I have not charged the keyboard for over 2 months and it is still fully charged. Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big improvement in durability I originally purchased the original Slim Book. The hinge broke. It was easily replaced in a warranty claim. Then the replacement broke. I had been really careful. I read about the Slim Book Pro. It looked like it would be better. I asked Customer Support if I could get a deal to upgrade to the Slim Book Pro in the warranty claim. I think I made the right move! The new design appears to address the flaws in the Slim Book and is similar in function and ease of use. Thank-you ZAGG!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, elegant, useful case for iPad Pro Just received my new Slim Book Pro this week. I couldn't be happier with it. This is my second iPad, my first iPad Pro. And have been very happy with Zagg Keyboard cases this whole time. I wouldn't go with another brand. But this Slim Book Pro really takes it to a new level, especially for the iPad Pro. By allowing the iPad to separate from the keyboard like it does, it makes the iPad much more useful for drawing and other applications. And yet it still comes with the same, ergonomic and comfortable, backlit keys in a new slick design. Did I mention I couldn't be happier?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's amazing! What a great replacement to the original Slim Book! It feels so much more sturdy and the keyboard is better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Try the rest and buy the best! Zagg is hand down the best $149 case on the market. I purchased a Clamcae for the iPad Pro after being really happy with my Zagg rugged. However it was nice but to big. I returned the Clamcase and was able to trade it back in for this one. What a great move! I do however like the 360 hinge capability of the clamcase, so you don't have to worry about carrying 2 pieces around. Either way the fold out stand on the Sim Book pro is excellent for achieving angle that I simply could not with the Clamcase or the rugged book. The rugged book falls over when bent back over 45 degrees. The Clamcase Pro with charging port was not adjustable and would only work on certain angles due to the hinge mechanics being a little cheap. Either was this Slimbook pro really feels amazing and the keyboard lights up nicely. The matte rubber finish is nice. The only thing I would ad is some feet on the bottom of the keyboard. Otherwise this keyboard is amazing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent design I got this a few weeks ago when it was available and I love it. It's worth it for the case and stand alone. The keyboard works great though sometimes it takes several tries to turn it off between uses. It does add to the weight significantly especially when using the keyboard. For me it's worth it because it's so well designed. I also think the backlit keyboard is essential if you're working on the iPad in dark settings. I don't like to have the screen brightness up high when wiring in the dark. The screen alone is not enough to light the keys. I turn the back lot to the lowest setting and is perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Significantly improved!! Zagg is awesome! Bought the Slim Book (aluminum grey) and like several others within a couple of weeks the magnetic hinge was obvious design flaw. Contacted them and the replacement is being hassle. Hoping the new design is functional as well as durable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatly improved! I had purchased the Slimbook for the iPad Pro this summer, and the case started to break after two months of use. After contacting Zagg, they immediately sent a replacement, and this newer one is significantly improved. I love the pencil holder, and the hinge is no longer plastic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit I just received my Slim Book Pro, and after reading several reviews, the ones on this site included, I was actually a little worried. I am, and have been a HUGE fan of the Zagg Slim Book (regular not for ipad pro) for a couple of years. Amazing function and convenience and superb battery life. I have basically told everyone I know with an iPad to get one. When I got my ipad Pro 9.7, I was a little underwhelmed putting it into a regular slim book - the extremely minor size difference made the "shut off screen when ipad closes" function not work. I also never know what to do with the Apple Pencil I immediately began looking for something to accommodate. I found the Slim Book Pro (SBP) on Zagg's website pretty shortly after looking and was, at first, very intrigued, but it was sold out. It became available this eek and I ordered it right away. Then I started seeing the negative reviews. I feared about how heavy it might be, the bluetooth not working, how hard it would be to flip down the stand - all of the things that the previous reviewer and others complained about. None of these things proved to be of concern at all. Weight - it is nominally heavier than the regular Slim Book. I have my girlfriend's ipad Air 2 in a Slim Book right now, and when I hold them both, I can barely tell a difference. If weight of the ipad is a concern or you - don't get a functional keyboard case, they add weight to it. Size, it is also barely larger than the Slim Book. I put this next to the Air 2 in Slim Book and the length and thickness don't change. It is a touch wider because of the magnetic connector. This was a large concern for me. I travel A LOT. I have a Timbuk2 messenger back which has a padded slot for the ipad that in a regular Slim Book, fits great. I was worried that this extra width would make it not fit. Result: It still fits great. Bluetooth Connectivity: I'll be honest, it did not connect right away. I turned my ipad off and then back on and it did, though. No connection problems since. AND, the keyboard tends to power on and be more responsive than the Slim Book. Stand/Hinge: More than one review of the SBP mentioned how stiff it was and how you "had to use a fingernail" to open it. I think this is an issue with their fingers, not with the SBP. The hinge is easy to open from the left (when horizontal) side of the case with my thumb, or other finger if I chose to do so. The "stiffness" is also what makes the ipad stand comfortably. I like that. It actually feels sturdier than the Slim Book, where after some time of continuing to open and close it, those hinges would tend to wiggle a bit, especially when you touched the screen with it open. I cannot comment on how this hinge holds up over time and frequent openings, but the stiffness seems to be a plus towards a positive goal. There is one downside to the advertised features: The Mophie Power App. The App is fine... it just is not necessary. With iOS 10, if you chose to view battery life in your lock screen (or by swiping right from your first screen while open) The ipad shows you the battery percentage of the ipad itself, the apple pencil, and the SBP, thus the Mophie App is pretty useless, although it did setup and work just fine. I would recommend this to anyone who has a 9.7 inch ipad pro that loves the original Slim Book. Improvements all around. And to ease another concern: I wrote half of this review with the SBP - half of it on my lap, and the other half with it sitting on a leather ottoman. Typing is no problem and it is well supported.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No compromises! Just rec'd this case yesterday. Ordered it the day it was released, hoping it would live up to my expectations since there were no advance reviews or units in stock any where around. Very sturdy case, easily converts to tablet use by separating the keyboard from the iPad case. The kickstand hinge is stiff so attaining practically any angle is possible. Typing on this keyboard is a joy compared to many others I've tried over the year, like the early Zagg Folio keyboard for the iPad 3 I had. A great improvement from the Zagg keyboard case for my iPad Air 1st Gen. The Slim Book Pro feels like it will hold up to heavy use and stand the test of time. If you do any writing on your iPad Pro 9.7" and are considering this case, don't hesitate. This keyboard case met all my needs, a high quality keyboard, stylish comfortable exterior soft texture, easy conversion to tablet, Pencil holder, and adjustable viewing angle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice case I really like this case, the only downfall is there is a section of the case where lint sticks to it and you have to wipe it down with maybe an alcohol oad ir something if that nature to clean it off. Much better than the previous one I had.
Date published: 2017-08-04
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice feel to it. I received this as a replacement after my two previous Slim Book's broke on the hinge. I still prefer the original slim book but the hinge is definitely a weak point in the design. This new version is nice, but I wish they didn't put the pen holder on the outside. It looks goofy, and is a definite dirt collector. the only other wish would be to have kept the home button on the far left side instead of pushing it to the right. Now when I think I'm hitting the home button I'm hitting the Bluetooth button.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent to replace your laptop while travelling I love the design and functionality of this keyboard, it allows me to work while traveling light. The only issue you will find is with the hinge that attaches the keyboard with the iPad, it is made out of plastic so it breaks after some months of usage. Nevertheless, Zagg customer service is always willing to help when need it, so I did not struggle a lot when my previous keyboard broke as I got a replacement in less than a week.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from well designed work well for using on airplanes- i like the option to go with or without the keyboard

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent design but heavy This unit seems to be really solid and in my estimation will provide great protection for the ipad. The functionality is excellent, with a great keyboard, with backlighting. The two downsides are: 1] I am unsure how the silicon rubber hinge used in the "pc" mode will stand up in the long term (many bends may crack it - but who knows), 2] The unit is quite heavy - my ipad now weighs similar to my PC which it was meant to replace ... I am unsure if I will keep it or not for this latter reason.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slim Design With Options I got this for my iPad Pro 9.7" for work and home use and enjoy it. The flexibility from casual viewing to functional work mode is great. 2 things to note why not 5 stars was 1) The pivot bar was tight on it and eventually snapped the holster channel after about 2 months of use. I am currently awaiting a warranty replacement though... 2) You will definitely want to purchase a screen protector as a rub line devolved on my screen from contacting the keyboard when closed and stored in my roller bag. Other than that, I enjoy the product.
Date published: 2017-03-15
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good setup for Ipad Pro I really like the slim book pro but I wish that the metal plate that holds up the screen had some rubber around the edge like the other version. I had had it scratch some of my tables. Other than being careful where I use it, it is very good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from For the most part I love this I really love the concept of this keyboard but I do have issues with the fact that I cant just put the keyboard on the back of the case to have it in "book" mode. Having to take the keyboard off and put it somewhere constantly is sort of stressful.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Slim Book Pro ; Better than the rest I bought this a few weeks ago after returning 3 different slimbools with backlot for the 9.7 IPad Pro. All had the same defect of not having a good fit between the iPad cover and the keyboard. I had to pay them extra tobupgrade to the pro and between that and the 3 different returns, I took 2 stars off. Yes I am happy with the Slimbook Pro and think ZAGG should take the Slimbook with backlit off the market. I have seen others make the same comment that iPad comes off the keyboard and can drop onto the floor!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very functional, but battery no so good The product is very functional, lightweight, and reasonably priced. But the battery leaves a lot to be desired. I sent two back and am on my third one. All the same. Advertised battery time is way short. I have gone out of my way to make sure the key board is turned off, but after using ~ 6 hours (keyboard backlight off), the keyboard battery dies after ~ 3 weeks of non-use. I do not have this problem with my ZAGG keyboard I bought many years ago for my mini-Ipad. ZAGG has been great at replacing the keyboards, but I have come to realize "it is what is". Recommend if you understand that the battery does not live up to expectations.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hinge freezes up With my second notebook it performed pretty much like the first. Aftec after about five months the hinge holding the iPod to the keyboard had to be forced to move to an appropriate position requiring romoving the iPad from the docking bar and physically moving the bag to the desired position then reattaching the iPad. Frustrating. Very frustrating. I trying to get my third unit due to malfunctions.
Date published: 2017-05-02
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Slim Book Hinge Fail This unit was replaced by Zagg support June 2016, and one of the two hinge pins of the replacement unit has broken off, allowing my iPad Pro 9.7 to fall on the floor when I opened it. The first unit was almost as bad, with the iPad  just popping out of the hinge due to design problems.  The hinge is stiff to support the different positions, but the encapsulating hinge and pin system appears to be the problem.  All other features of the Slim Book are as advertised and work well, but the hinge problem is a no go!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great idea in theory but... I have been a Zagg user for years and still have two keyboards for my iPad 3 - a Zagg Pro and a Zagg Folio. I have loved those units and found them excellent. I recently purchased a new iPad Pro 9.7 and the first thing I went looking for was a Zagg keyboard solution for it. I found the Slim Book Pro and thought it was exactly what I needed. Well, my new SBP arrived today and I certainly like the idea of it, as well as the feel of the keys' action on the keyboard, and its size. However, this unit - the SBP - adds a SIGNIFICANT amount of weight to the iPad. It takes what is an extremely lightweight tablet and turns it into the weight of a MacBook Pro. It adds marginal thickness but that's not so bothersome. Even when using just the tablet in its Slim Book case with the keyboard separated, the iPad weighs almost twice its naked weight. Adding the keyboard close to doubles that. The Apple Pencil holder is a bit loose and adds a fair amount of size (height) to the overall profile, and since it's on one side makes it a little odd such that you can only lay the closed bundle on the keyboard side. Slipping it into a brief case with the Pencil attached is both awkward and risks losing the Pencil in the process. Finally, the Bluetooth paring on the keyboard is an annoying challenge that is often times completely unsuccessful. To get the paired keyboard to reconnect to the iPad sometimes requires turning the Bluetooth feature off and back on on the iPad, keyboard, or both. And sometimes it works... There's no way to tell what you're going to get even if repeating the same process every time. This intermittentcy is more frustrating that not working at all. And I've only been able to get the keyboard to pair and connect with my iPad and an old iPod 5; every else - Apple TV, Kindle Fire TV are a complete bust as the keyboard nor the other device wil see each other. And occasionally, even with a strong battery it will miss a key press or worse just start keying in repeated spaces on its own with no way to stop it or regain control outside of powering it off and back on. On the positive side, the stand on the back of the iPad case seems handy, especially for use when separated from the keyboard. Albeit, the hinge is extremely stiff and heavy, and the stand takes up a lot of room - much more than the older units with the trough that held the iPad in place did - when attached to the keyboard. The magnets that attach the keyboard unit to the iPad case are quite strong and snap into place firmly. The material on the outside of the case is smooth but grippy for table tops. I do fear this finish will wear off over time like other devices with similar exteriors but I won't assume such immediately. Overall, I think this was a great idea in theory but in practical use, the added significant added weight, lack of Bluetooth connectivity and issues reconnecting, and space/bulk taken when assembled as an entire unit - I have serious doubts that this will fit on an airplane tray table without being too close to be used comfortably and/or hanging over the edge on one side (likely the side closest to you when the person in front of you reclines), oh... and the iPad case unit all but covers the power switch, making it difficult to press as there is no cutout for it - all this adds up to a recipe of unpleasant surprise when considering the price and frustration. At least for me. I am seriously thinking of returning mine, which is quite disappointing as I was so excited to order it. Perhaps I'll go with just the Slim Book model, giving up the Pencil holder and separability. I'm sure the size/footprint is smaller but the weight is probably still pretty hefty but surely it's not as heavy as the Pro. If the Pro was $79 or even $99, maybe I'd think it's more worth it but for $149 (+ shipping & tax in some cases), I'm just not seeing it. Sorry Zagg - I've been a huge fan and supporter, as well as a major referral engine for you for a very long time but I'm just not seeing it with this. I really wish I could love this but it's just not loving me...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed This is now the 3rd keyboard I've had to return and replace. I'm trying one last time. Fingers crossed this one is the last. The case as breaks every time. I mean I'm strong but I'm not a superhero with my strength LOL. Wish me luck.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Product If i could give this product lower than 1 star I would. I've gone through three cases and every single one breaks in the same exact spot. I do not drop my ipad or mistreat the case and it still breaks just from normal use. It is not worth the price they charge. They need to fix the design flaw.
