Reviews & Questions

Rugged Book Case with Backlit Keyboard for the Apple 9.7-inch iPad Pro/Air 2 (English US) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 127.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zagg Rugged Book Case for 9.7 iPad Air 2 20190711 Zagg Rugged Book Review For about three weeks, I have been using the Zagg Rugged Book keyboard case for a 9.7 iPad Air. So far, I am satisfied but offer some information about the product.. It does provide complete hard plastic protection. The pad can quickly removed from the keyboard while leaving the back cover on the pad. One of the main attractions was Zagg’s advertised long battery life of up to 2 years charge. I have not had it for 2 years, but I did have to charge it about 2 days after I started using it. I have not had to charge it since. One reviewer pointed out that using the keyboard lights could quickly drain the battery. I now only use the keyboard lights when I need them. That said, the lighted keyboard was another feature that convinced me to buy it. The lights work well. You can change the color and brightness, or just turn them off. It came with no useful instructions, but I needed some instruction just to insert the iPad for the first time. The hinge is very stiff, which is a good thing for holding the pad in your preferred viewing position. However, I was afraid that I might break the hinge because it was difficult to move without the pad in place. I am concerned that the plastic hinge will not last forever. Meanwhile, I use slow steady exertion to open and close the case with the pad in place. It can be positioned at every angle I am interested in, including 180 degrees (flat).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than a keyboard I bought this for the keyboard feature. I travel often and don't want to be loaded with a laptop, but sometimes I need to do a lot of typing. Works great for that. Comfortable hand positioning, nice touch, seamless connectivity (which is easy to disconnect when I need to). I also use it as a stand to watch movies on the plane. My newest favorite part though is the rugged case that goes on my iPad. Just yesterday I tripped in the office. My coffee and iPad went flying (left the keyboard at my desk). iPad spun into the wall, bounced on it's corner and then ricocheted to the floor (fake wood planks over cement slab). It landed face down and I was ready for a big crack in the screen. Nothing. Looks perfect, runs perfect. The case is rugged. Highly recommend.

I need to ask the other two questions separately due to question length requirements.  Also still unclear now the product is released, (2) does the lightning port opening allow the Apple Pencil to be charged direct from the 9.7" iPad Pro?

Asked by: Wildblue
As I can't correct my prior answer, I've added this additional comment to clarify my prior statement. I have received a new Rugged Book for the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.  My prior answer said "Air" incorrectly, but I assure you that my Rugged Book is specifically for the newly released 9.7-inch iPad Pro, not the iPad Air.  The iPad I'm using has Apple Pencil capabilities.  I've tried using the lightning port with the Apple Pencil while the iPad Pro was still in the case portion of the Rugged Book and it will not fit.  If I could attach pictures, I would. I've also posted a review of the case, but it hasn't shown up on the website yet.  It was a rather glowing review because I'm quite happy with the new Rugged Book overall, I just don't want people buying it thinking that the Apple Pencil will fit while the case is on the iPad. I'm sorry for the error and any potential confusion from my original answer. - Corey (Originally posted as Anonymous)

Does this keyboard have multi-color backlight?

Asked by: hding24
Yes, multicolors are available, but you have to turn on the backlight each and every time you use the keyboard.  The feature does not stay enabled.

I signed up for the email list to stay informed on when this will be released, but there wasn't an option for Apple iPad Pro 9.7. I selected other.  Just something you may want to add...

Asked by: iheartwaterbottles
We all want to know when it will be released?  Can you add the email box to be notified?  Why is this not posted yet????

In the demonstration video the circular hole around the camera lens appears to cover up the flash bulb rendering it useless. Will you please provide a close-up view of all ports and openings so we know exactly what we are buying?

Asked by: consumer123
The video is a little outdated as they change based on new iPad models. For the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, we can guarantee that the correct openings have been made to accommodate the camera and flash functions.

I just purchased the Folio Case w/keyboard. After I got home I set my iPad Pro 9.7 up. Everything was great except there are no cut outs for the 4 speakers on the 9.7 iPad. Will the Rugged Book have cuts for these 4 speakers?

Asked by: bcjrstl
Yes, it will have cutouts for all 4 speakers.

I know from the specs and video that the battery life is only 2 years, that worries me a bit. I mean that seems like a short time for a keyboard that I will probably be using for so much. Is there a way to replace the battery after the 2 years?

Asked by: Alec304
No, they're not saying the battery will fail after 2 years.  They are saying that if you fully charge the battery, and use it as they propose, it will be 2 years before you have to charge it up again.  You can charge it over and over again, of course.

Why are the most recent reviewers saying the rugged book for Ipad Pro 9.7 has multicolor backlight options whereas all customer care staff I have spoken to (at least 5 so far) have assured me the only backlight color is white?

Asked by: RD12
I am going to answer my own question. I can confirm (after receiving the keyboard today), as Collins and a few other reviewers already have, that the new rugged book for IPad Pro 9.7 does indeed have multi-color backlight options. To be precise, it has 7 color options. I think the agents need to be better informed, and a great first step would be if Zagg updates its product page for the new rugged book for IPad pro to reflect the changes.
